Environmental Protection Bureau, Hualien County held “2019 Hualien County Environmental Knowledge Contest for Environmental Protection Volunteers “ at Hualien County Zhongzheng Stadium on Jun 22 of 2019. With the objective of brining the County’s environmental protection volunteers together to strengthen solidarity thereof, Environmental Protection Bureau has specially held an environmental knowledge contest to incorporate the environmental education and fun element in games. Besides, environmental protection cheer squads and delicacy booths also make this environmental protection event fun; and all volunteers have showed their spirit of solidarity to strive for the great honor.

Not only have the volunteers been educated from this contest while enjoying the games, but also, by exchanging ideas with the others, they have been brought together and have strengthened their solidarity. Mayor Hsu Chen-Wei also joined this large event to interact with the volunteers from all regions. In total, 21 teams with 20 to 40 members respectively made their greatest effort on doing the cheer squad and knowledge trainings. With their solidarity being evolved and expanded, all participants have managed to show their intellectuality and vitality, and strive for the best performance.

Group A then continued the “Environmental Protection Golden Brain”. In this multiple choice question based contest event, participants had to choose one out of four choices to show their environmental protection knowledge and experiences accumulated in life. Afterwards, “The King of Resource Categorization”, a resource categorization knowledge based relay race that shows participants’ related knowledge, was launched. In this game, all questions were put into the boxes of “resource garbage” “general garbage” and “kitchen wastes”; and the team that has answered accurately the most would become the winner. Through this game, volunteers have shown their efforts and results accumulated in daily recycling activities. As for “The King of Plastic Reduction” and “Resource War”, teams of Group B were challenged to transform recycled wastes into tools and put recycled objects into the baskets to show their determination of reducing the use of plastics.

Environmental Protection Bureau, Hualien County expressed that the purposes of this multielement and interesting contest were to enable participant volunteers to interact with the others in a pleasant atmosphere; learn abundant and important knowledge related to our environment; and understand the importance of teamwork and solidarity. The winners of Group A will also join the national contest on behalf of Hualien County.
