The 2020 Hualien and Taitung Electric Scooter Fund Subsidies is Running Out
In order to improve the air quality in Hualien County, the Environmental Protection Bureau actively promotes the use of electric scooters. This year, the bureau began accepting applications for the Hualien and Taitung electric scooter fund subsidies since January 1st. Following the promotion policies of the IDB (Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economy Affairs), EPA (Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan), and the Environmental Protection Bureau of Hualien County, people who replace their old scooters with new electric scooters can receive up to 23,000NTD of subsidy.

In order to create a more convenient riding environment, the Hualien County Government applied for 10,000NTD increase in subsidies from the "Hualien and Taitung Fund" to the IDB for each county resident who purchases an electric scooter. From 2010 to 2023, the government will subsidize 1,000 electric scooters per year; a total of 4,000 vehicles will be subsidized. In recent years, riding electric scooters to reduce vehicle emissions has gradually become a consensus among the public. The Environmental Protection Bureau promotes the information of the subsidy through multiple methods such as media consignment, online community sharing, and multiple test-rides of electric scooters. After receiving the subsidy information, the people applied for subsidies enthusiastically. Up until September 8th, a total of 986 applications have been applied, 2 of which are not eligible, and 16 spots remain. For the remaining quota, the application documents must be sent to the Environmental Protection Bureau: the applications must be stamped and registered by the Air and Noise Control Section to confirm that they are included in the subsidy quota. If there is no EPB stamp, the application will be regarded as invalid. If the quota of the Hualien and Taitung Fund is used up, applicants can still apply for a vehicle purchase subsidy of the IDB, EPA, and the Environmental Protection Bureau of Hualien County. The maximum subsidy for replacing old scooters is 13,000NTD, and the maximum subsidy for solely new purchases is 7,000NTD.

Director-General of the Environmental Protection Bureau, Rao Chung claims that in order to create a more convenient riding environment, in the second half of the year, the bureau will continue to guide electric scooter manufacturers to set up battery stations to improve the convenience of electric power supply for riding electric scooters, so that more folks can start riding electric scooters, keeping the air in Hualien fresh and the air quality further improved!
